I am so, so, SO looking forward to seeing where this year takes me. I have a lineup of seriously cool couples whose weddings I get to work on, an incredibly supportive network of friends and wedding professionals who make life fun, and the most wonderful little family a girl could want --- my husband, John and my dog, Rhino. I feel as though the stage is set for something great, and since I want to play an active role in that greatness, here are some of my hopes for 2014:
I hope that in 2014 I read more books. Ever since I was a child, I have loved to read. I was/am an introvert to the core, and reading is one of the only pastimes that quiets my busy and easily-distracted mind. Do you have any book recommendations? I tend to be drawn to autobiographies and historical non-fiction.
I hope that in 2014 I go on more dates with my husband. For those of you who don't know my husband and I very well, we both work in jobs we like that demand a lot of our time and energy. Simply put: sometimes we don't see each other very much. While the realities of our work are unlikely to change, I hope that I get better at setting aside intentional date times, even if its a simple "lets take the dog for a walk" date or (my personal favorite) "lets watch fails on youtube" date.
I hope that in 2014 I learn to do something new...for fun. I learned a lot last year by making mistakes, and I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of that this year, too, but in 2014 I also want to learn at least one new skill just for the fun of it. I'm open to suggestions, but at the moment I'm considering hip-hop dance classes, a cocktail mixology course or a pottery class.
I hope that in 2014 I get to shadow my wedding vendor friends. I'm on the hunt for new wedding perspective, and how better to get that than spending some of my off-weekends shadowing my brilliant vendor friends? A related goal might be to make sure I don't shadow only people who make cake....
I hope that in 2014 I make my physical health a priority. So, it's been awhile since I hit the gym. Also, I really like cake. I'm diligent in so many things, but exercise and healthy eating are not among them. In 2014, I hope to balance my enjoyment for delicious food with more responsible, healthy eating behaviors. On a related note, I want to cook more frequently and responsibly. Got any favorite healthy dinners in mind? Please share!
I hope that in 2014 I will be more open. This is a big one --- I want to regularly open up about my personal life here on this blog. And, I want to share both the good and the bad, the fun and the monotonous. In essence, in 2014 I want my blog to be a better reflection of me. [Don't worry. I won't stop posting pretty wedding things. I'm not sure I could do that.]
I hope that in 2014 I face some fears. I hope that I do something that scares me this year. Whether that be letting go of my art-insecurity and making lots of DIY projects, tackling a project that seems way too big/out of reach, or simply saying "no" when it's the right thing to do, I hope to go out on some limbs this year.
I hope that in 2014 I make better mistakes. I hope that 2014 is a year of forward motion, and not repetitive motion. As great as 2013 was, I want embrace this new year fully.
Cheers to 2014.
